The Eternal Return

Although they were commissioned in 1943, the group and bas-reliefs behind it weren’t inaugurated until 1954. Landowski’s reflections on death as a “return to the elements” (Journal 1941) are depicted here. “Expressing the mortality diluted in the earth, air, water, fire and in eternal life is a harsh visual problem.” The original casts are conserved in the Musée de Boulogne-Billancourt.
